Health tips for Hajj

It might sound funny when I say this but stay positive and do not assume you will get sick. Paranoia sometimes in my opinion makes our brain believe we will fall sick and inevitably do. Train your mind to think optimistically.

Water:
Remember, you're in Mecca, make maximum use of the holy water of aab-e-zam zam. Keep yourself thoroughly hydrated. You will be sweating quite a bit there. Water can also flush any bacteria from your body hence preventing from sicknesses of all sorts including food poisoning, flu, etc.

Food and drink:
  • Take a teaspoon or two of honey every day. Alternatively, you can dissolve it in hot water and drink it like honey tea. Honey has plenty of vitamins to strengthen immune system and also regulated digestion and the bowel system.
  • Try to eat yoghurt regularly. Besides being a great source of calcium, they assist massively in digestion and hydration.
  • Nuts are great for energy especially as there will be a bit of walking and lack of sleep during Hajj.

Medicines:
  • Take a vitamin C pill every day without fail. It's essential in keeping the immune system strong.
  • Vaseline petroleum jelly is an essential especially for men to avoid ehraam brazing the skin. Vaseline is generally not-perfumed, but double check before buying.
  • Keep panadol/Tylenol in handy - whenever you feel body aches or lowly, take a panadol to prevent the symptoms from increasing.

If God forbid you do get sick, act fast!! Even if in every day life you avoid medicines and prefer to deal with flu by resting, drinking fluids and herbal remedies, it is important to have medicines here at Hajj and cure yourself immediately. Your primary purpose for Hajj is Ibadah and you will regret it if you spent this time in sickness.

Finally, there are usually quite a few doctors in every Hajj group and hopefully so will your Hajj group. Moreover, there are plenty of pharmacies every where as well as medical doctors are organised by Saudi ministry. In short, don't worry and remember there is no shortage of help in Allah's land.
